Building the First Robotic ISRU Systems for the Moon and Beyond

Wed, January 28
Exhibit Floor, Booth #7961
Second Stage: TINA Talks

As sustained lunar and planetary operations move closer to reality, robotic in situ resource utilization (ISRU) systems are becoming foundational infrastructure rather than future concepts. In this session, Honeybee Robotics, a Blue Origin Company, will share lessons learned from recent lunar flight heritage, including the LISTER pneumatic drilling payload, PlanetVac regolith sampling system, and the TRIDENT drill developed for subsurface access. The talk will also touch on sampling technologies supporting missions to Phobos through JAXA’s Martian Moons eXploration mission and NASA’s Dragonfly mission to Titan. The discussion will conclude with a deeper look at RedWater, a NASA-funded system concept designed to enable robotic access to subsurface ice on Mars, exploring how drilling, melting, and water extraction technologies can support long-duration surface operations and future ISRU architectures.
