Jesus Charles served as the Descent Flight Director for Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1, which successfully landed on the Moon on March 2, 2025 marking a major milestone in the new era of commercial and international lunar exploration.

An aerospace engineer by training, Charles began his career supporting Department of Defense payloads missions to the International Space Station before transitioning into payload integration, mission management, and spacecraft operations. At Firefly Aerospace, he has supported key  initiatives across multiple programs, including Alpha, Elytra, and Blue Ghost, and has been part of the Blue Ghost mission from its earliest development through lunar surface operations.

Today, his work focuses on building the systems, ground architectures, and operational frameworks that enable repeatable, multi-customer, and collaborative missions in lunar and orbital environments. His expertise spans mission operations, cross-disciplinary systems coordination, and the optimization of mission systems for long-duration and high-reliability spaceflight.

Originally from the U.S.–Mexico border region, Charles is deeply committed to mentorship, bilingual outreach, and expanding global access to space careers. He is passionate about connecting space exploration to real economic opportunity and inspiring the next generation of engineers, operators, and leaders shaping humanity’s future beyond Earth.
